Intoduction
SOA is the largest accounting school among all the public universities and established along with Universiti Utara Malaysia in 1984.SOA comprises two different departments namely as Department of Financial Accounting and Taxation and Department of Audit and Acconuting Information Systems. SOA offered two courses which are Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) and Bachelor of Accounting (Information Systems).The programme is established and developed following the requirements of the accountancy professional body in Malaysia, Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA) to be consistent with other accounting degree programmes offered by other local and foreign universities. The programme is continuously reviewed to ensure that graduates possess necessary accountancy knowledge and skills, as well as are able to apply the knowledge and skills in an ethical and professional manner.

PROGRAMME GOALS
The Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons) is offered to meet the following objectives:
- To produce graduates who are knowledgeable and adaptable in business environment with respect to accountancy and managerial functions
- To produce graduates who are able to prepare, use, interpret and evaluate financial and non-financial information to help management make business and organisational decisions
- To produce graduates who are able to perform accounting functions (e.g. financial reporting, audit, taxation) in accordance with approved accounting standard for all various types of organisations.
- To produce graduates who are able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with different stakeholders.
- To instill ethical values, responsibility and humanistic skills vital in the public and private sectors.
- To produce graduates who are capable of designing,managing and assessing accounting business information systems for different types of businesses for them to be able to handle opportunities and challenges with the rapid growth in business environment. The accountancy programme offered is aimed to produce graduates who possess necessary knowledge and skills in accounting and are able to apply their skills and knowledge in an ethical and professional manner.
CAREER PROSPECTS
The establishment and development of the accountancy programme is to produce graduates who possess specific knowledge in accounting with necessary skills about the culture and ethics in work place and business. The programme is aimed to produce professional accountants who are able to convert theory into practice as well as are able to analyze and solve business and accountancy issues. Graduates can choose to work as managers, business consultants, accountants, auditors or even entrepreneurs. With the accountancy degree, Bachelor of Accountancy (Hons), and working experience in the relevant field, graduates are eligible to apply as certified accountant and become a member of the accounting professional body in Malaysia, Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA). The accountancy programme is also recognised by other accountancy professional bodies, MICPA, ACCA (UK), CIMA (UK), CPA (Australia) and NIA (Australia).
